Today I have an interesting plant for you, a sensitive one! Its the Mimosa Pudica plant. Its from the Mimosa genus, Mimosoideae family and it grows in tropical climates. People find this plant fascinating because when you step on it, or your shoe lightly touches the plant, the leaves will close, thus it is called the Sensitive plant or "Puteri Malu" in Indonesian (which means shy princess). That is also why its branches have sharp prickles. There are many ways of using this plant in traditional medicinal uses, like the roots can be prepared and used for treating inflammation or fatigue.
I know think pic is not that great so I'll try to get a better one. That's all for today folks! :) Oudhia, Pankaj. "Chhui-Mui or Lajwanti (Mimosa Pudica Linn.)." Purdue, n.d. Today I'll be talking about the croton petra plant. Croton petra comes from the same family as the Croton Mammy(topic of my 1st blog post), which is the Euphorbiaceae family and Codiaeum genus; it is a shrub. It grows humid climates but can also grow indoors in the cooler climates. This plant is commonly used as a decorative house plant but its sap is very poisonous, so beware. Today's the first time I posted something on this blog in the new year 2014! And today is the first time I post something that is a picture of a scenery and not a plant. Enjoy this article!
A few days ago, I came back from Lombok, a place near Bali, for a short trip to celebrate the new years with my family and cousins. Lombok is a half an hour flight away from Bali. The picture above is a picture of a beach in Lombok, in the Senggigi area. Most people call it Senggigi Beach. Senggigi is the area in Lombok that is filled with tourists because it is where the nice hotels and tourist destinations are located. I took a picture of this while I was going jet-skiing. I took the picture on January 1, meaning that day was a gloomy new year day. But anyway, my cousins and I had lots of fun going jet-skiing. Thanks for reading a bit about my trip to Lombok! Hope you enjoyed my blog, and be sure to visit again and leave a comment down below on what you think of my pictures! :) Hi Everyone! Today I have an interesting flower to talke about! It takes the shape of a Spider Web!
The white flower in the picture is a Hymenocallis. There are very many types of Hymenocallis genus that makes me unable to identify which one that is. Hymenocallis belong in the Amaryllidaceae family and grow in moist soil. It is quite common in Jakarta and can be found in sidewalks, gardens and nice housing areas around town; this is because it has a low maintenance level. Most people call this the Spider Lily. This is an unusual flower because its petals are long and thin. This plant is said to be used in folkloric medicine and an example would be the crushed bulb mixed with oil would be used to treat freckles and pimples. Hope you enjoyed my blog! Stay tuned!
